Port Bolivar is a small community located within the Bolivar Peninsula of Texas, which is situated along the state's eastern coast. It is one of the communities that make up Galveston County, and it is part of the Houston-Baytown-Sugar Land Metro Area. With a population of only around 1,500 people, this lovely coastal town is the perfect place for retirees or young families.

Brief History

During the year 1838, the Republic of Texas granted the land known as Port Bolivar today to a man by the name of Samuel Parr. Parr named the small town Parrsville; however, he soon turned the land over to two men by the names of William Lawrence and Archibald Wynnes. Lawrence and Wynnes renamed the town Port Bolivar and began developing it in 1893.

Parks and Recreation

One of the best features of owning investment homes in Port Bolivar is that there are several beautiful parks in the area. A favorite park among people who live here is Fort Travis Seashore Park, which is located just off 10th Street. This park features such amenities as a playground for the kids, barbecue grills, picnic tables and walking paths.

Highlights of the Crab Fest include carnival rides, arts and crafts, tasty crab and other seafood, and live onstage music.

Another great event that is held near bay homes in Port Bolivar is the Santa Comes to Crystaland Parade. This event takes place in mid-December and features a grand parade, Santa Claus, float competitions and free candy for the kids. Other events held near canal lots in Port Bolivar include the Jane Long Festival in October and the Mardi Gras Parade in February.
